B.CON II
BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
MODULE OUTLINE
This module aims to introduce structures as architecture by developing an understanding of the structural system in construction technology in a unique way in relation to historical and innovative building. Skeletal, solid and surface construction system are discussed and analysed in terms of load and forces in general term. Projects based on topics covered during lectures provides students with the opportunity to apply knowledge gained as well as to further enhance their understanding of the topics.
PROJECT 1 : SKELETAL CONSTRUCTION
In this project, students are required to construct a temporary bus shelter based on the basic understanding of skeletal structure which includes all the basic construction elements from the foundation to the superstructure.

FINAL REPORT :
REFLECTION
Through this project, I was able to have a deeper understanding and knowledge of skeletal construction which includes the connection of the base to foundation, footings, beam to column, floor joist, roof joist and etc. I was able to experience and witness the real life construction of the bus stop which gave me a lot of real experience of the construction process. At the same time, I also learn how to deal with problems that arrises when constructing the actual bus stop.
PROJECT 2 : UNDERSTANDING FORCES IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
In this project, students are required to choose from tensile structure or gridshell structure as case study where an actual built project is used. Students are required to build a model of the structure , one construction detail model as well as 2 A2 presentation boards which includes all the construction methods of the structure.

REFLECTION
Through this project, I was able to have a deeper understanding and knowledge of the construction of a gridshell structure which includes the nodes connection, laths connection and lath to base connection. It was very challenging in building the gridshell structure model as it requires bending of the laths. I was able to improve my model making skills as well as digital applications to
