DESIGN COMMUNICATION
MODULE OUTLINE
This module introduces fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings and modelling to prepare students with the skills required in Design projects. These skills are taught through a series of freehand, constructed drawing, and architectural modelling held both outdoors and in the studio.
PROJECT 1 : ON-SITE SKETCHING & TONAL VALUES
This assessment introduced students to visualization and expression of space through on-site sketching activity on campus. Students are required to develop their skills in creating depth and tone in a sketch, and thus refining and enhancing the ability to produce an architectural sketch that is legible. Students are required to record their observation and perception of the spaces and the human habitation of these spaces through free-hand sketches. This sequence must include both exterior and interior spaces.
All the sketches are to be from Taylor's Lakeside University Campus.

REFLECTION
Through this project, I was able to perfect my rendering and sketching skills. I was able to understand hierachy in drawings in the aspect of main focus, light and shadows and etc. The process of practicing sketching which is on site sketching had trained me to sketch by estimation and increases my confidence in sketching.
PROJECT 2A : ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTIONS
Students are to utilize the given object, which is the drafting table to be drawn up which includes measuring the table itself and produce 4 orthographic drawings.

REFLECTION
Through this project, I was able to learn how to produce proper othorgraphic drawings of simple object like the drafting table. I also learned how to make exact measurements and produce indication of dimentions in the drawings. This was the first time for me in using techinical pens so this project stands as a platform in training me to use techinical pens correctly.

Students were given an assigned building to research on which is the cooper house by Gwathmey Siegel along with the dimentions and facades to produce floor plans, elevations, and sections of the building.

REFLECTION
Through this project, I learnt how to draw floor plans of a building through photos and by researching. I have also learned how to produce proper architecture plans which includes building and material symbols to convey the charateristics of the building. On the other hand, I also learnt how to build a architectural model using modeling boards according to the floor plans and evelations drawn.
PROJECT 2B : AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION

Using the floor plans, elevations and sections produces during the previous project on the cooper house, studetns are required to produce an exploded axonometry of the building itself.

REFLECTION
Through this project, I have learnt the proper way to produce an exploded axonometry of a building which includes the skills of projecting lines and angles to achieve the best outcome. Besides, I also learnt how to draw isometric drawing at the same time, master the usage of techinical pens during the whole process of producing the drawings.
PROJECT 2C : PERSPECTIVES
Refering to the same building which is the cooper house, students are to produce one 1 point and one 2 point perspective of the building with renderings to show the depth of the drawing.

REFLECTION
Through this project, I learned how to produce 1 & 2 point perspective according to the floor plans drawn at project 2A part II. My rendering skills were improved were I was exposed to a new medium of rendering which is using technical pens. I also had a stronger understanding in lights and shadows projections.
PROJECT 3 : FINISHING & PRESENTATION
This is an intergrated project with Design Studio I where the presentation boards of our hideout act as the drawings requied in this subject which are floor plans, elevation , section and perspectives.

REFLECTION
Through this project, I have learnt how to produce proper presentation boards which includes drawings like plans, elevation, section and perspectives which summarizes all the drawing techniques I have learnt through all the previous projects. I was also able to convert the model design by myself into proper plans to help me convey my ideas and design concepts.
