Understanding Different types of Professions and Drawings in the Built Environment

Project Brief:

The English oral presentation is combined with another two subjects which are introduction to drawing ( ITD ) and introduction to the construction industry ( ICI ) therefore this project was named the integration with the combination of 3 subjects in a presentation.

For the English subject, students are judge for their presentation skills which includes verbal skills, nonverbal skills and the content presented.

The presentation composed of 5 to 6 person in a group with 15 minutes given for each group to present. Each group are given with different profession that are involved in the construction industry namely:

3. Town Planner

4. Product Designer

5. Quantity Surveyor

6. Landscape Architect

7. Civil/Structural Engineer

8.Mechanical & Electrical Engineer

Procress:

After diving our parts, we did our own research on the sub-topics that were assigned to us.

I chose to research on the task and different stages of construction of a town planner. I also helped my team members on some research on the types and stages of drawing needed by a town planner.

We had several meetings to combine and analyze all our informations. Me, Madeline and Jian Xiang was in charge of making the slides. After getting the slide done, we practiced for our presentation a few times in every meeting we had.

What was new to this project was the usage of the interactive whiteboard which are usually being introduced during degree level. It was a good opportunity for us to get use to presenting using the touch board. By having the interactive whiteboard, it made the presentation more interactive as we are able to draw on the board. Important points are able to be brought out by underlining or circling the points using the board pen.

Our group even booked a discussion room equiped with the touch board to practice our presentation so as to achieve the best presentation.

Reflection:

Through this project, I have learnt how to present in front of the lecturers and all my course mates. I have also learnt some tricks in presenting which will make the whole presentation come to life. I also learnt how to present with fluent English with the usage of proper connectors to make each sentence a whole as well as proper pronunciation for each word that I spoke.

Interaction when presenting is also very important to capture the audience's attention. Appropriate eye contact should be made all along the whole presentation with much self-confident in the content presented.

Proper intonation should be used during the presentation so as not to sound like a monorail which will make the whole presentation a boring one. Always keep a smile on the face while presenting as the audience will prefer to listen to a presenter who is cheerful instead of emotionless.

In conclusion, practice makes perfect . Therefore proper rehearsals should be done before presenting so as to be well prepared.
