Final Project : Business Comparism

CHINESE MEDICAL HALL, KLANG VALLEY VS SEREMBAN

Project Brief:

In this project, students were required to analyze businesses from two different settings. Therefore, students will have to choose a type of business at 2 different places which is Klang Valley and outside Klang Valley. After choosing the business, students will have to make carry out an interview with the founder or owner of the business so as to gather information about the business in different aspects.

 

       The business description should include:

 

  1. Background information about the businesses.

  2. Analysis in terms of competitors, obstacles or challenges, nature of business and strategies used.

  3. Recommendation – future plans, expansion and ways to sustain the business.

     

    We were required to form a group of 5-6 person. My group has 5 members :

30 OCTOBER 2015

       We went to visit the chinese medical hall at Taman Midah, Kuala Lumpur on the 30th of October which is a Friday. Madeline's brother was the one who fetched us there. 

 

       We did our interview with Mr. Liew Cze Kong and took photos of his shop, products, Mr.Liew himself and many other photos.

 

       Then, we took photos of the competitors of Cze Kong Medical Hall and Sundry.

 

       The whole interview process took us 1 hour and 30 minutes. After the interview, we went for lunch at a chicken rice stall nearby the medical hall.

       After having our lunch, Madeline's brother fetched us to a nearby KTM station which is TBS- KTM Bandar Tasik Selatan. 

 

       We bought our ticket to Seremban and waited for the KTM to arrive. We discussed about the things that we will have to accomplish once we reached Seremban. 

 

       We waited for the KTM for about 25 minutes and finally started our journey to Seremban. There were no seats available in the KTM at first. After 30 minutes of standing and waiting, we finally got a seat to sit down.

       We reached Seremban at 5.00pm where the journey took us about 1 hour and 45 minutes to travel from Bandar Tasik Selatan. 

 

       My father went to the Seremban KTM station to pick us up. Our appointment with our interviewee was at 9.00 pm. Therefore , we went for dinner at a chinese restaurant before the interview.

 

       At 9.00pm , we met our interviewee, Mr. Chong Ngai Loong, which was one of my father's high school friend at KFC. We carried out our interview which took us about 2 hours and 30 minutes for the whole process. 

 

       After the interview, my father decided to thank Mr.Chong by treating him to a supper meal. So, we went for our "second round" which was our supper with Mr. Chong where we continued asking more question about his business.

 

       We were very full and satisfied with all the work that we have accomplished in just one day. 

31 OCTOBER 2015

       On the next day, we visited Mr.Chong's chinese medical hall. The name of the shop is Chop Yan Tuck Medical Hall. We also met the boss of the medical hall, Mr. Chong Ngai Soong. He runs the business with our interviewee which is his own brother.

 

       I bought many herbs from him to show our appreciation and support towards chinese medical herbs.

 

       We also took many photos of their shop and also how they run the business.

 

     After everything was accomplished, we went to many places in Seremban to have lunch, tea time, snacks and many more. 

 

     We were happy that we were able to finish all the interviews in 2 days which wa considered quite efficient.

 

       It was an enjoyable time together with all my group mates for these 2 days.

Reflection:

Through this project, I was able to pick up some useful communication skills acquired to interact with people that are elder than us. On the other hand, I also experienced the correct and proper way to conduct an interview. I also learnt how to structure all the questions to be asked in an interview so as to get the desired and precise anwser from the interviewee.

 

        In addition, I also had a chance to improve my communication skills when discussing any matters with my group mates in ensuring the whole process will be successful. I also learnt how to listen ro others' opinion before giving my own opinion. I have learned that in order to be successful in something, each and everyone must be able to commuicate with one another. A project will not be completed successfully with the absence of effective public communication.

 

       Lastly, thanks to this project, I also got a chance to have an insight look of how a business is being run. The comparative analysis between both of the chinese medical halls had taught me some tactics and strategies to gain success in a business. Therefore, I was able to gain some basic knowledge about starting and running a business which will benefit me in the future.
