Project 1A:

The 10 Artwork

Project Brief:

This project is an individual project where students are required to observe nature and the build environment and capture design elements apparent or unseen with their bare eyes. Students are then required to sketch their findings, understanding and interpretation of basic design elements on white A5 art block paper.

Requirements:

- 8 A5 sketches

- 2 A4 abstract art painting or drawing

- explanation page behind the artwork

Then, students were to stick their final drawings on a mounting board and label their own board with their identication using white pen.

We went to the KLCC park for our site visit to take photos required by this project. There was an architecture exhibition on that day, therfore, we were also invided by Ms.De to pay this exhibition a visit.

I went there by travelling with Jian Xiang who drives to university. We then took a LRT to KLCC.

We went all around the park searching for suitable elements of nature and built environment to be sketched in our project. We took many photos like therailings, the gazebo, flowers, leaves, trees and many more

It started to get hot in the afternoon so after we have taken all the photos, we went shopping. The whole journey was very fun and enjoyable.

I got a re-do for the first tutorial as the method of sketching I used was incorrect. Then, I learnt that there are actually proper ways to render drawings like hatching, stippling, scribbling and man more. I find it very interesting to be able to use different ways to draw all the skecthes.

Reflection:

Through this project, I have learnt the basic design elements which are shapes, lines, form, hue, color, and texture. I was also able to realize that all these design elemetns are actually present in everything around us. I just have to take a step back and analyze it. I also learned how to analyze all the design elements, for example, how the lines or shapes are, whether they are in a straight line or geometric shape, or curvilinear lines or organic shape. i also learned that different types of design elements applied in a certain object or thing will create emotions or brings liveliness to a drawing. For example, straight lines in vertical and horizontal are visually in a static form. However, a diagonal line creates a visul effect where it is moving towards a direction. On the other hand, curve line are more visuallly  emotional.

On the other hand, I was also exposed to different ways of drawing and rendering like scribbling, cross hatching, stippling and etc. I was able to practice it out so as to improve my drawinf skills. In addition, I was able to use my creativity and imagination when drawing the 2 abstract artworks. It was quite challenging for me to come out with an abstract art as I am more towards a factual person. But, I somehow manage to find my "click" in drawing the abstract arts.

Lastly, I was able to analyze all the design elements for both nature and built environment. I realized that , most of the built environment involve straight lines rather curve one, geometric shapes rather than organic. All in all, I find this project very meaningful and fun.
