Project 2B:

Hanging Mobile Display

Project Brief:

This project is an individual project where students are required to choose a toy character and understand it. Then ,studetns are to choose a keyword that best represent the toy character and make a hanging abstract moobile for the toy character which comes in a form of lego miniature.

Requirements:

- DPJ 1,2 ,3

- Mock-up models

- 3 presentation boards

- Final Hanging Mobile

My chosen toy character is Monkey D Luffy and the word that most represent him is ELASTIC because he is a rubber man where he has the power to strech as long as he want after eating the gomu-gomu nomi which is the gum gum devil fruit.

TUTORIALS & PROGRESS:

Our first tutorial was a pin-up session of our DPJ 3. All my ideas was not usde as the keywords I chose was not the best that represents Luffy. Therefore, I will have to start all over again on the word Elastic.

Mock-up models using materials that are elastic. My concept starts where I visualize Luffy eating the devil fruit where all the particles venture into his body system and cause his body cells to deformed which is considered as mutation of cells. Hence, Luffy became an elastic man since then.

Drawing 3 presentation boards from scratch was a very challenging task especially drawing the orthographics of my model as it is very randomly built and in an organic, irregular form. Therefore, I will have to measure each of the gaps between each rubber band and metal wire just to draw it. I spent almost 5 hours to draw one orthographic drawing.

THE FINAL OUTCOME :

Reflection:

This project was the project that I enjoyed the most throughout the whole semester as Luffy is my favourite anime character amd I enjoy drawing him over and over again. Besides, I have applied all the knowledge and experiences that I have gained through Project 2A and apply them in this project. Therefore, it was easier as I have gone through the hard part during the previous project. On the other hand, I have improved my drawing skills as I was drawing continuosly for this project so that all the graphics that I drew will be the best.

Next, I have also learned how to design a model based on the character that I have chosen. The lego miniature was like a client that had hired me to build a building that suits him the most and he will be the only rightful one to be fitted in that model. This relates back to reality where clients will hire us to design for them. Our design has to suit our client's preference and personality but not our own opinions and design. Therefore, this project have given me a platform where I have a chance to design a model for my so called "client".

Lastly, I had learned a lot in each of the tutorial sessions as Ms.Deliya was always talking to us about things other than this project which are some of her experiences that will help us during degree or even in the future when we become an architect. I habe learnt a lot from her as she was very precise in her comment and direct to the point. In a nutshell, this was the best way to end a semester with projects that have benefited me and I have enjoyed them to the fullest as well.
