Project 2A:

2D to 3D Exploration

Project Brief:

This project is a group project where students are required to transform a given keyword into 2D drawings, then to 3D abstract models. The requirements of this project are:

- 9 2D drawings ( lines, shapes, inspiration from given architect )

- 3 mock-up models ( model boards )

- 3 mock-up models ( Cardboard & Polysterence )

- 3 mock-up models ( Chosen Materials )

- One Final Model

- 2 presentation boards

We were divided into a group of 4, my group were:

1. Lee Yet Yee

2. Chang Huey Yi

3. Tam Zhao Wei

4. Tan Min Chuen

we got the word FLARE !!!!

TUTORIALS & PROGRESS:

Our first tutorial session was held after the lecture on Thrusday. We were required to present our findings and understanding of the meaning and action of the keyword given - flare, as well as our given architect- David Adjaye. 2D drawings that portrays the word flare were drawn in 3 main sections which are lines, shapes, and based on the design elements or style used by our given architect. The tutorial was held in a pin-up tutorial session.

The next day, we started to transform our 2D drawings into 3D mock-up models usinf merely model boards as the material first. We were required to carry out this session during tutorials on Fridays to save our time and increase the efficiency of our work.

On the following week, we were required to improve our mock-up models by changing or amending it's design to portray the word flare. The materials that were required were cardboards and polysterene.

For the last 2nd tutorial, we were required to explore on the materials that can be used to make our final models. We explored on different kinds of materiasl namely netting, metal wire, cable ties, and cotton buds.

Then, we proceed to design and draft out our presentation boards.

THE FINAL OUTCOME :

Reflection:

Through this project, I was able to learn a lot of things! Firstly, I have learnt how to transform a word to a 2D drawing then to a 3D model. I was able to use my creativity and thinkings to transform them with inspirations from a given architect. This provides me a platform to know more about the deisgn styles or principles of an experienced architect. On the other hand, I was able to explore different kind of materials in actualizing the final model. I have gained a lot more knowledge on the materials that can be used to make stunning artworks without using any glue.

Besides, I also learned and experienced the design process of designing a project or an artwork. The design process is very important as we will be going through this process over and over again whenever we are going to design something for our client. Therefore, this project have granted me a chance to train myself to be used to this design process which requires a lot of research, effort, precision, discussion and so on. Thus, I will be well-prepared when I enter degree as I have gone through this design process and I am clear of what I should do at every single step.

Lastly, I was able to gain a lot of joy and fun through this project as my teammates were the best teammates ever. We worked together as one and made lots of sweet memories together. We stayed up the night togehter, we share our stress, and we harvest the results together with joy. That was the most treasurable thing that I could ever have, friends for a lifetime.
