Project 2: Individual

City Pamphlet

In this project, students were required to make a pamphlet to promote the new "X" city which was planned by themselves. Before making the pamphlet, students were reuiqred to do lots of research based on many aspects of a city. All the research done will be compiled into a progress report compilation. The information in the progress report will be used in the pamplet.

The requirements of the progress report:

1. Investigate on ancient & old cities, present cities and future cities.

2. Understand the type of city and the environment that your group have selected.

3. Look into documents, article, guideline and issues regarding planning a better future city.

4. Produce a brief proposal for the “X” City through diagrams, existing images, some sketches

and illustration.

The requirements of the pamphlet:

1. Brief information about the new “X” city approach

(the aims, name, location, green aproaches, new initiatives, technology and etc )

2. Provide 2 example city that you refer to and how, what and where are you implementing it in the new “X” City.

3. Provide a master plan drawing of this new town.

There were a few choices of environment to build our city in namely forest city, city that floats on water, underground city, and city that floats in the air.

My group got the topic "city in the forest".

Reflection:

Through this project, I have learnt all the details about a city, for example, zoning of a city, components of a city, layout of a city and many more. I was exposed to more new technologies while doing my research which was an eye opener for me. I also learned how to promote my own city by arranging all information in a pamphlet which was quite challenging for me as I am not good in computers. I could have did everything in manual but I chose not to as I want to learn and improve in using computer to produce a digitally made pamphlet. It was so hard for me to manage it but I did not give up. Finnaly, I was able to finish everything in 5 days. It was a long process compared to those who are good in computers, but I am glad and proud of myself that I was able to pull it off.

Drawing the master plan was very challenging as everything has to be to scale. Lots of patience was needed to draw the buildings in the city as it had to be drawn to the precise scale. Rendering the master plan brought this project to a higher level of difficulty. It was not simple and I admit that I did not do a great job in rendering the master plan.

After I submitted the pamphlet, I got comments from Ms. Iffa who was my tutor for this project. She was disappointed at my work this time despite having a good process. I was heartbroken at that moment. But after so many projects, I have already adapted to all these feelings and accept all the comments from the lecturers and keep it in mind so as not to repeat the same mistake again.

In conclusion, I was able to gain much knowledge about a city and at the same time given a chance to plan and design my own city from the inside out. I am grateful to have this project as my friends from other university did not have a chance to learn about city planning. I am so blessed.
