Drawing Basic Space

Project Brief:

In this final project, students were given a fix space where they need to plan and design the interior of the space. Students were required to refer to IKEA's catalogue for the furnitures. On the other hand, the floorings and walls of the space are also to be taken into considerations.

Every furniture or elements had to be drawn to scale and to precision on the floor plan given. Students were also required to re-draw the floor plan to scale before putting any furnitures in.

The spaces given were:

-Bedroom/Living Room

-Kitchen

-Bathroom

Students were also required to provide an estimation of the total cost for all the furnitures. A list of furnitures chosen from IKEA should be printed and place right after the last page of drawing with the pictures of the furnitures along with every details like the dimention, name, price, quantity and amount.

Reflection:

Through this project, I have learnt how to draw a floor plan with the correct scale. Besides, drawing an interior space with a floor plan to the exact symbol and scale was what I have learnt through this project. I was able to design the interior space of an area where I got the chance to experience what is to be like as an interior designer. I was able to identify all the basic necessity of a person as I have to decide every furniture in the area including lights, windows, decorations and many more.

In addition, I also learnt to draw better lines compared to the previous project. It was my first time drawing a perspective. It was very hard for a beginner to imagine a space and draw a perspective out of it. Luckily, we were allowed to look for a space that looks similar to ours and draw it by make some changes to it. I decided to pick up more perspective drawing skills as it was very interesting to think that I will be able to draw any space that I see.

Lastly, I will work harder on the line weights of my drawings as I have neglected it in this project. I was focusing too much on other aspects that I did not pay too much attention on the line weights. I forgot to label where were my sections and elevations out of carelessness. Therefore, I will definitely check the brief again before submission to ensure I had cover every aspect.
