Project 2 : Idividual

Re-branding of Daily Objects

In this project, students were required to re-brand a given daily object. Students are required to explore their creativity and critical thinking skills in basic marketing for a basic daily object. More specifically in the area of rebranding, packaging, promoting and advertising a boring daily object.

For this project, it was divided into two parts which are the individual part and group work. For the individual part, students are required to re-brand and re-package the object given.

The few types of daily object given were:

1. Measuring tape

2. Color pencil

3. Pegs

4. Strainer

5. Straw

6. Shaver

7. Strings

8. Plaster

9. Matches

We were divided into groups of 5 were we will be given the same object. My group got measuring tape.

Project Brief:

The Process:

This was the very first time I felt lost in a project. My first idea of re-packaging the measuring tape into a basic sewing kit was not rejected but called a typical and ordinary idea which was not creative at all. Therefore, I struggled to think of an idea to re-brand the measuring tape as many ideas I came out with either it had been used by the seniors that got the same object or it's too simple and uncreative.

At last, I came out with an idea of making a mini drawer where there will be a mechanism that allow the measuring tape to be pull out and wind back.

-Process of Re-branding & Re-packaging the measuring tape

After getting the mechanism done, re-packaging the object was quite challenging as my brain stopped working and I wasn't able to come out with any ideas. The packaging has to be related to the product and the aim of the product. After a long time of procastination and experiments, I came out with a drawer that has my product name on it where there are two  whiteboard paper on each side of the product for users to record what they eat everyday and to write down motivational quotes to encourage themsleves to lose weight.

Reflection:

Through this project, I have experienced the moment where I was totally lost as there were no ideas coming out from my tiny brain.  I had learnt a lesson and will definitely strive hard to improve my creative thinking skills so as not to go through the fustration I went through this project.

In addition, its an eye opener to see what my other friends did in this project where they re-brand and re-package each object with much creativity in it. I was excited to see so many interesting things that were created by my friend and they did inspire me to explore futher.

In conclusion, the journey of creativity is endless. I have spotted my weaknesses through this project. Therefore, I will stay strong to due with my own weaknesses so as to become a better me in the future.
