Project 2:

Basic Orthographic Drawings using Daily Objects

Project Brief:

In this project, student were required to choose an object within A5 size-base. Using the chosen object, students were to sketch and conduct measurement of chosen objects. In this process, students should take as much measurements and any related information on the selected object. The information will be useful to generate the orthographic drawings.

Then by using book references/ classroom tutorial, independently students were to explore the applications of Drawing Conventions and generate orthographic drawings that clearly express the 3 dimensional objects.

When all drawings are completed, students are to compose it into a booklet (accordion style) and all writings will be manually done using Architectural Writing.

List of drawings required:

1. ONE Top view
2. THREE Elevations (Front/Back/Sides)
3. ONE Section
4. TWO Detail drawings
5. ONE Perspective view with proper rendering to be used as cover page

I placed every possible objects that are within A5 size and placed it on the table:

- measuring tape

- calculator

- correction tape

- remote control

- Cutter

- Nail cutter

- Stapler

At first i chose to draw cutter, but when I started picturing it in my mind, I decided to change my object as this cutter is does not reach a certain level of complexity.

At last, I chose a measuring tape where there was a certain level of complexity and it was quite challenging to draw it as it has curved shapes and many tiny details on it.

I practiced a few times drawing the measuring tape using various tools to aid me so as to achieve the exact measurement and shape of the object.

The Final Drawing:

Reflection:

Through this project, I have learnt how to draw proper orthographic drawings using the correct tools. Paying attention to the finest details like the lines and curves drawn was quite challenging as my hands were not very used to it so it was shaking a bit which caused the lines to be not so perfect. I also learnt to draw objects to the scale I want like drawing the detail part of the object where different scale was used.

In addition, I also learnt to write down measurements in the correct way so that the whole drawing will not look untidy. Line weight was used to show parts that are nearer to the viewer was also shown in these drawings.

In conclusion, this project had proved me wrong as I did not believe myself that I can draw things that are with many details and specifications. Therefore, I will try drawing more complicated orthographics to be prepared for more during degree.
