Project 2B:Residential Landscape Project

Project Brief:

This project is a continuous assignment of Project 2A and the individual project. Students were required to propose a landscape design for the house that they had been using for the previous project and propose it to the client which is the owner of the house.

All the developments of the design process were to be shown in the final board submission. The board should include:

1.PROJECT DESCRIPTION

2.CONCEPTUAL DIAGRAM

3.SCHEMATIC PLAN

4.MASTER PLAN

- Master Plan

- Elevation & Section

- Hardscape Palette - Softscape Palette

5.COST ESTIMATION & MAINTENANCE PLAN

I was totally lost at the first place when Ms Iffa explained what are we supposed to do like draw a bubble diagram, then conceptual, then schematic, then a master plan. My head was spinning with much confusion. All confusions and questions were solved in every tutorial where my work constantly got the holy word from Ms Iffa - RE-DO!!! Therefore, I had been re-doing my work for 3 tutorials. I am very grateful that my work was approval on the day where no one showed any progress as that day was the submission day for ENBE city ppamphlet.

Re-do, Re-do, Re-do : Progress

The last re-do was four days before the final submission. Ms Iffa commented that my design was too boring, and she told me to re-do in an extremely polite way, RE-DESIGN......I went into despairation state as submission was on the edge and I have to " re-design" the whole thing. But I did not give up hope and I re-designed my schematic plan. Finally, I got a green light from Ms Iffa on Friday where submission is on Monday.

FINALLY NO MORE RE-DO!!

My design was approved on Friday. This weekend was not a good one for me as I have servings at church on Friday night and had a camp for the whole day on Saturday and I still need to attend church services on Sunday.

I was under intense pressure as I was so tired but couldn't afford to sleep for a while. I ended up like the photo, tears streaming out of me suddenly and I knew I was going to break down. I asked myself a few questions:

Whether I am giving up or not?

Is it worth it to give up now?

Don't you have passion for architecture?

and many more questions. I finally put myself together again and focus on my work.

This was the first time I had ever cried in FNBE due to stress from the projects.

On sunday night, I started to do the last part which is the cost and maintenace fees.

I used about 6 hours counting the area for each areas and typing it into the computer.

I am NOT GOOD IN COMPUTERS, therefore, it was very tough for me to actually make the cost and maintenance fees. Fortunately, I finished everything by 6.30 am in the morning. I was so pleased and proud of myself.

Reflection:

Through this project, I have gained knowledge about the design process involved in landscape project development and the representation of ideas for every stage taken. In addition, I also have a deeper understanding on landscape design components and how it works and have been applied into the field. I wa able to gain experience from this project where I get to be like a landscape architect and designed the landscape of a house from scratch.

I also learned more about the elements in landscape which are the softscapes and hardscapes and how to arrange all these elements to create a comfortable, nice and breath-taking landscape.

Lastly, I was able to persevere eventhough I was so tired and seemed to not have enough time to complete it. This marks the end for the module Constructed Landscape and I really did had lots of fun throughout the learning process.
